Percy Jackson Has Found Its Poseidon—And It’s Not Logan Lerman

There are officially a couple of Gods amongst these men.
The Wire‘s Lance Reddick and Black Sails‘ Toby Stephens have joined the upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians as Zeus and Poseidon, respectively, according to Variety.
Described as the “all-powerful god of the sky and leader of Mount Olympus” according to the outlet, Zeus is also characterized as “tempestuous and mistrustful. He’s promised to wage a war if his stolen thunderbolt is not returned.”
We’d probably suggest slipping that thunderbolt back under Zeus’ door.
Not only is Poseidon the god of the sea, he’s also Percy’s father. “Although seemingly absent in Percy’s life,” his descriptions reads, “many of Poseidon’s qualities live in Percy; stubbornness, impulsiveness and loyalty. Though he has stayed away throughout Percy’s life, his deep feelings for his son (and Percy’s mother, Sally) are evident.”
The Adam Project star Walker Scobell will play 12-year-old modern demigod Percy in the series, which also stars Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri as Percy’s friends Annabeth and Grover, respectively.
Source link On September 24, 2020, it was reported that Poseidon, one of the central characters of the beloved Percy Jackson franchise, has been cast — and it’s not Logan Lerman.
Despite the fact that Logan Lerman played Percy Jackson in the hit films, it was revealed that Poseidon, the Ruler of the Sea, would be portrayed by another actor: Aussie actor, Harry Shum Jr. While fans immediately began to express their disappointment on social media about Lerman not returning for the role, Shum Jr. offered a unique take on the casting news.
In the statement released by Shum Jr., he expressed his love for the Percy Jackson films, and said, “I’m so honored and thrilled to join the cast of the Percy Jackson series. I have been a long-time fan of these films and am excited to be joining this magical universe. I am thrilled to bring Poseidon, the God of the Sea, to life.”
But Shum Jr. isn’t just a fan of the films — he’s a promising talent who’s sure to bring a whole new dynamic to the role of Poseidon. With his experience in films like Crazy Rich Asians and TV series such as Glee, Shum Jr. sure knows how to portray powerful characters, and is sure to bring an original spin to Poseidon when the films come out.
It may have come as a shocker for some fans that Lerman won’t be reprising the role of Poseidon, but as Shum Jr. said himself, he’s excited to bring new life to this beloved character. With the success of the previous films, audiences will surely be eager to see what’s in store with the new cast.
Regardless of who’s playing who, with the addition of Shum Jr. and the rest of the cast, Percy Jackson is sure to make waves in the future.
